![]() ![]() While the songs leave enough breathing room for blissed out psychedelic noise, Schneider’s descriptive, rambling-filled tales remain at the heart of the band. You could be forgiven if you mistook Schneider’s echo-laden yet still rootsy vocals for those of Jim James, but Lord Huron lean far closer to spacey folk than the powerhouse rock and roll of My Morning Jacket. The band backs Schneider’s enthralling adventure tales with dreamy folk rock that feels as mystical and naturally free-flowing as his lyrics. The next song, “The Ghost On The Shore,” affirms that an appreciation for home still remains after majestic travels far and wide, as he sings, “I was born on the lake and I don’t want to leave it.” As he sings about a “moonlit lake,” “bright red sun” and “wooded island,” it becomes clear that he’s not singing about an exotic paradise but his rural Michigan home. But by the third song, the title track, his concept of traveling seems to evolve. Singing about rivers and mountains on “End of the Earth,” Schneider plays the part of a mystic traveler throughout the album. The leadoff track, “End of the Earth,” feels like a fitting welcome for Lonesome Dreams, with natural, adventure-inspired lyrics, and a lush, cinematic take on folk rock flavored by driving, world music influenced percussion. Lonesome Dreams opens with angelic harmonies before Schneider sings, “Oh there’s a river that winds on forever, I’m gonna see where it leads.” He continues, “To the end, to the end, won’t you follow me,” inviting the listener to come along for the ride. But while the traveling-centric lyrics feel old-timey, the music – with murky keyboards and creative percussion embracing gently strummed acoustic guitars, feels brand new. With his songwriting, Schneider taps directly into that never-ending well of weird, old Americana. With their wild folk tales, Lord Huron capture the same pioneer spirit, and, ultimately, longing for home that fuel McMurtry’s epic novel.įrom the adventure stories of Lord Huron’s songwriter Ben Schneider to the album’s cover art of a lone cowboy on a midnight ride through an empty desert, the band appears to tip a cap to McMurtry’s classic work and the lonely but grand, strange vastness of the rural Midwest. Now, Lonesome Dove finally has a soundtrack, the similarly titled Lonesome Dreams, a debut LP from Michigan’s Lord Huron. After the diminished and disheartened crew finally succeeds, the leader feels nothing but a duty to return all the way home, a journey that he embarks on alone. In Larry McMurtry’s quintessential epic frontier novel Lonesome Dove, a pair of adventure-thirsty ex-Rangers lead a danger-ridden cattle drive from small-town Texas to Montana, heading north until they could declare themselves pioneers, with no neighbors for hundreds of miles.

The video cuts back to the inside where happy couples are dancing and customers are singing along as she looks into the camera and assures fans that she’s positive God’s got this. Erica appears in a vibrant, sunshine yellow jumpsuit, singing to the audience, “Only focus on the good, let Him handle the rest / I tried to fix my bad, I kept making a mess / So I made up in my mind smile more and stress less / Gave it all to God, and He gave me a blessing.” Flowers fill the air and bloom inside as Campbell’s infectious positivity spreads.Īs her acclamations reach fever pitch, the camera pans to the gospel superstar looking sleek in all black standing in front of the diner boldly proclaiming that she is not going to fail because God is in control. She knows immediately what the place needs and heads to the jukebox, presses play on her new single and fills the space with “Positive.” The atmosphere shifts quickly to one of joy, healing and peace in the diner, which now gives more concert venue than restaurant. ![]() ![]() "Being positive, thinking positive, knowing that God is sovereign and in control.”Īt the diner’s door, she is greeted by fights, arguments and quizzical looks. “I just wanted to take that word back and give it the power it deserves," Campbell said in a press release. The song, with its catchy mid-tempo beat and chant-like affirmations, is Campbell’s way of reclaiming the word positive from its Covid-era connotation of death and despair. Written by Erica, her husband Warryn Campbell II (who also produced the song) and Juan Winans, “Positive” is the lead single from her third studio album due out on September 23rd. The last time we saw Erica Campbell, she was performing alongside her sister Tina Campbell as Mary Mary at Super Bowl LVI with a masterclass on how to sing “Lift Every Voice And Sing.” We were hoping that performance meant that a Mary Mary reunion was ahead, but we're getting the next best thing: a new single from Erica! The GRAMMY Award-winner and syndicated radio show host blesses saints and ain't's with the uplifting track "Positive," which is a certified mood enhancer. When the “band got back together” all bets were off. Little did I know, several years later I’d date a “Duranie” (who became my wife) and we saw Duran Duran consisting of Le Bon, Rhodes and guitarist Warren Cuccurullo (86-01) several times. That line-up of Duran Duran featured Le Bon, Rhodes and John Taylor. I first saw Duran Duran in 1993 touring their self-titled release that eventually became known as The Wedding Album. They’ve released four studio albums of original material in 11 years all the while keeping the founding members of Le Bon, Rhodes, John Taylor and Roger Taylor intact, on the road constantly and seemingly quite happy. In fact, it’s hard not to notice the prolific nature of Duran Duran since reuniting. Guitarist Andy Taylor left shortly after, again, and it’s been the Core 4 ever since. The Fab 5 reunited in 2003 releasing the rather exceptional album Astronaut a year later. Eventually, singer Le Bon and keyboardist Rhodes anchored the band through thick and thin. Yes, the band continued in various original member capacities (and became or joined other bands) but without the founding line-up of Simon Le Bon, Nick Rhodes, John Taylor, Roger Taylor and Andy Taylor. The hype exploded and eventually so did Duran Duran. I don’t remember my reaction but only part of their prophecy proved true (at least for me) and it didn’t last long. Two female classmates rather confidently told me about a new band that was bigger and better than Rush. My first memory of Duran Duran comes from, I believe, the fourth-grade. ![]() If you don't want the extra tags, then you can't have more than one block level element nested inside a list item.įinally, I'll note that in the example above the first list item did not get the tags. If list items are separated by blank lines, Markdown will wrap the items in tags in the HTML output. That is, the contents of the list items are now wrapped in tags. One thing to note is that the output this generates includes the side-effect that you now have a "lazy list". In that case, you would need to add a blank line between the last list item and the paragraph that follows, so you do here as well. ![]() The key is to think of everything nested in the list item to be its own standalone Markdown document which is indented four spaces from the rest of the document. You need to include some blank lines to tell Markdown when to start the list, when to end the list, when to start a paragraph (which not in the list) etc. Is this just too complicated to encapsulate in Markdown, and is a case where I should just use inline HTML instead? The particular behaviors also vary based on which flavor of Markdown I'm using. With different indent levels for the " but then," but no matter what it either joins with " subpoint 3" or it just becomes another child indent under the bullet point. * and here's one more point just to drive it home * Here is another bullet point it has sub-points: I have tried several variations of this: * Here is a bullet point I cannot seem to have the ".but then continues with." bit to remain in the same bullet point that encapsulates the sub-list. Images under list items should be indented the same as their parents. Here is how this Markdown is rendered: Image indentation Also, we recommend you use even-numbered indentation (with tabs composed of two spaces) like this: When you have a code snippet in a numbered list, indent snippets so they match the indentation of their parent steps (typically two spaces). Here is how this Markdown is rendered in HTML: Code snippets in procedures To avoid this unfortunate indentation and numbering, insert a second blank line feed so you have two line feeds separating the introductory sentence of the second procedure from the last numbered item of the first list. When the Markdown is rendered, the introduction for the second procedure isn't indented (see "You can also add.") and note how the numbering for the second procedure starts at 5: When you publish your document, the Markdown library will indent the first-level list items for you: ![]() Take a look at these list topics in this section:įor first-level lists introduced by a left-justified introductory sentence, we follow this Markdown standard: left-justify all first-level list items. While single-level lists are pretty straightforward, when you start nesting them, you can run into indentation issues. Lists are a great way to explain procedures (numbered steps) or simply itemize items (bulleted lists). ![]() We'll also demonstrate how to insert spaces to incorporate code blocks, images, and nested lists within a set of procedures. This doc covers how to handle parent (first-level), child (second-level), and grandchild (third-level) lists. Indentation can also affect the file's readability when it's rendered in HTML. When you're writing in Markdown, indentation can make your doc source more readable. ![]() I was really depressed, I had a lot of anxiety. I started with my Cricut and I found the more that I used it, the more that it helped me escape my mind. When I started crafting, I started out like a ton of us doing small shops, small business sales to help supplement the family and really get to know my machine. And so doing the podcast and going deeper behind that, deeper behind the meaning, is really important to me. And a big part of my platform is mental health and how crafting kind of helps us deal with mental health and get through it. It’s where I can really go behind the scenes of crafting. First of all, I’m so excited that Counter Culture has a podcast. Thank you, Sarah, so much for having me on the podcast. I am so excited to have you on the podcast today. And I’ve got to say, she’s a great friend. She’s also a brand ambassador for Counter Culture DIY. She’s well known in the crafting community through her YouTube channel, and her Facebook groups, Cricut Craft Life and Tumbler Craft Life. So today, I’m really excited to introduce you to a guest who has used her platform to promote mental health through arts and crafts. It gives you a purpose for the pain that you went through. And when it’s completed, it’s almost like I took all this dark, oily, ugly liquid, and I scooped it all up, and I poured it into a bottle and I put that cork in it. And I can’t tell you how many times I have poured my heart and my guts and my feelings into a song. So in addition to being an arts and crafts maniac, I’m also a musician and a songwriter. So in connecting with artists all over the world, one constant thing that I hear over and over is how art and craft has carried them through tough times. Today, we’re going to talk about art as therapy. So let’s jump right on in and get creative. So in each episode, we will be sharing inspiration, showing support for one another, and fueling your fire as an artist. Just like our business, this podcast is built on giving back – to our customers, our staff, and to you, the artists community.
